Directions to Annaghmakerrig from Dublin and Dublin Airport

From the city centre and South Dublin take the Port Tunnel. Take main Belfast road, M1; bypass Drogheda and continue on Belfast road towards Dundalk. Approximately eight miles beyond Drogheda exit motorway left (exit 14) signposted Derry and Ardee. Bypass Ardee and Carrickmacross. Exit main road left signposted Carrickmacross and Ballybay (main road continues to Castleblayney), following further signposts for Ballybay. In Ballybay turn left on narrow street signposted Clones (main road continues to Monaghan). Continue to Newbliss, through roundabout at Swann’s Cross. Follow Cootehill road out of Newbliss for two miles; take the third turn on the left at brown Annaghmakerrig Lake signpost. After one mile road veers sharp left and gates of Tyrone Guthrie Centre face you (code for gate given in advance of arrival). Total journey two hours plus.

Alternative routes from Dublin

Take main Dublin-Derry road passing through Ashbourne, Ardee and Carrickmacross, Remainder of journey as above. Take main Dublin-Cavan road passing through Dunshaughlin, Navan, Kells and Virginia. Approximately ten miles beyond Virginia turn right for Stradone (not Bailieboro); just beyond Stradone turn right for Cootehill and right again at T junction with main Cavan-Cootehill road. Take Clones/Monaghan road left out of Cootehill, turning left for Newbliss after 1.5 miles. Continue to second brown signpost for Annaghmakerrig Lake, approximately 5 miles. Turn right; after one mile road veers sharp left and Tyrone Guthrie Centre gates face you. As above to Navan; turn right over bridge to Nobber, Kingscourt, Shercock, right turn in Shercock for Cootehill. Remainder of journey as (ii) above. Shorter route but not main road.

By Bus

You can travel by Bus Eireann to Monaghan from either Busaras in Dublin city centre or from the airport, then taxi to Annaghmakerrig. The schedule changes at different times of the year so you should check times by phoning either (01) 8366111 or (047) 82377 or see buseireann.

Directions from Belfast

Take motorway M1 from Belfast, signposted for the West and for Dublin. (Ignore turn-off for Dublin). Bypass Lurgan, Craigavon, Portadown. Watch for exit left for Armagh. Go through Armagh onto Monaghan road, well signposted. NB watch for right turn for Monaghan as you leave outskirts of Armagh. Go through Monaghan and turn left for Cootehill at traffic lights. Six miles from Monaghan turn right at Swann’s Cross roundabout for Newbliss. Go through Newbliss and follow Cootehill road for two miles; turn left at the signpost for Annaghmakerrig Lake. After one mile road veers left and you face the gates of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre (code for gate given in advance of arrival). Journey approximately two hours.
