Funding Schemes & Grants

Local Authority Grants

Many of the Local Authorities in Northern Ireland and the Republic award bursaries for individual artists to come to Annaghmakerrig.  Each local authority makes its own selection. These are awarded annually and interested individuals should contact their local Arts Officer for further information.

The Stinging Fly Prize

The Stinging Fly Prize is an annual literary award offered to new and emerging writers by The Stinging Fly magazine in association with the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. The Prize is for a writer who has had poetry or fiction included in The Stinging Fly during the year.

Annie Deeny Award

The Annie Deeny Memorial Prize was launched by distinguished poet Fleur Adcock in May 2004. Mrs Annie Deeny was a teacher and mother of six children who, although she wrote, never sought to have her work published. This perpetual prize is in her memory to encourage someone in a similar situation to write and to publish. It provides a two-week residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig.

You may apply for the prize by completing the standard application form available on our website. You should attach a short statement about yourself and your work, indicating why you believe you should be awarded the prize. You should also enclose some samples of your writing. A member of the Deeny family judges the award. Closing date 30th September.

Chair of Irish Poetry Award

The Ireland Chair of Poetry Award is awarded annually for a four weeks residency with the winner being chosen by the holder of the Ireland Chair of Poetry.

Residencies and Exchanges

The Tyrone Guthrie Centre is a member of Res Artis the umbrella organisation for Artists’ centres worldwide.  A number of these centres offer exchanges for artists who have been resident at Annaghmakerrig.  These can change from time to time as new members join in the scheme. Currently we have an exchange programme with:

Varuna Australia
VCCA
Djerrasi
Centre d’Art i Natura
Can Serrat
Schwarndorf

These exchanges are organised annually. Those interested should apply using the standard application form but marking it ‘Exchange’ and naming the centre of choice. Applications should be sent to the Director to reach us by September 30th for take-up the following year.
