The Centre, located in a historic house and estate in rural Monaghan, is a unique workplace for artists in all disciplines, welcoming residents from the island of Ireland and abroad. Since its foundation in 1981 the Tyrone Guthrie Centre has attained a valued place in the artistic and cultural life of Ireland; it receives funding from both Arts Councils in Ireland and the property is maintained by the Office of Public Works.
The Director will live and work at Annaghmakerrig where the duties and responsibilities include:
- managing the Centre in accordance with the policies and values of the Board and reporting to it regularly. The Director will be a capable leader, motivator, and manager of the Centre’s staff;
- ensuring that resident artists receive every support during and after their stay. The Director will know the arts policies and administrations of both jurisdictions on the island and will have expertise in working with, for, and on behalf of artists and cultural enterprises;
- managing the finances of the Centre, controlling budgets, and fundraising;
- representing the Centre and conducting its key external relations. The Director will maintain positive relations with important partners and benefactors, building trust, and retaining the confidence of the two Arts Councils and other funders, the OPW, local and regional authorities, and the regulators of various aspects of the Centre’s operations.
2021 will see the 40th anniversary of the Centre’s opening and the 50th anniversary of Sir Tyrone Guthrie’s gift of his family home as a residential workplace for artists. The Director will assist the Board in developing its policies and practice to ensure that the Centre is endowed, staffed, and managed to best serve artists and their creative work in the coming decades.
